Fischer Athletes aren't the only ones adding to their trophy collections
Fischer has decided that enough is enough and it's time that they start getting the awards they deserve for themselves. It's not what you'd think though: these awards are not for their skis, nor outstanding customer satisfaction. The latest addition to the trophy case is for being a leader in another much more important category.
Fischer has set the standard not only for other ski manufactures, but for the entire manufacturing industry with their sustainability and environmental protection actions. Fischer has collected two awards already: a first place for Austria and a second place internationally at the "Energy Globe Awards" back in 2001 for the start up of their very own biomass CHP plant.
Since 2001 Fischer has been able to cut down their CO2 production by 36.8 tons and their heavy fuel oil use by 15 tons. This is equivalent to the amount of electricity 2.3 houses would use over 6 years. These cuts have allowed Fischer to contribute to Austria's Kyoto commitment of reducing CO2 emissions by minus 13% by 2010.
In comparing 2000 and 2006's C02 emissions and water consumption, Fischer has been able to cut emissions by 84.7% and water consumption by 40%. A truly impressive step forward in industrial footprint reduction.
Fischer has been able to make these drastic cuts thanks to their own biomass CHP plant and by using special water treatment plants and filter systems. Fischer has also drastically reduced the use of solvents by implementing water-soluble varnish, thermal-diffusion and digital printing. And to add icing to the cake, Fischer's products are recycled and reused at the end of there operating life, either by thermal recycling to produce new energy and heat or to obtain valuable raw materials.
So that's the story on how Fischer's went green!
