News: Gord victorious in Swiss Cup Gord scored the victory he's been waiting for on Saturday, taking gold in the 15km skate Swiss Cup event near Marbach, Switzerland. Gord had to battle through horrendous conditions of strong wind and driving rain on his way to winning by a commanding 43 second winning margin. Rhonda also showed that her form is on it's way up heading into Nationals with a 6th place finish. The races were moved to a backup site above Marbach due to warm weather that's been effecting ski conditions across central Europe. This area has been good to Gord, and he also scored a victory in a 15km skate here 4 years ago. Rhonda and Gord will race again on Sunday in 5km and 15km classic events respectively. Dan and Tasha will be on the start line of the 90km Vasaloppet on Sunday in Sweden. The Vasaloppet is the largest ski race in the world and the epic 90km event attracts over 15,000 skiers each year. It is truly the hardest loppet in the world to win and Dan and Tasha will be up against tough competition. Karla and Skeets are both training at home for the next two weeks leading into the Canadian Championships in late March. With a strong contingent of international athletes slated to show up at the Canadian Championships in Whistler to test out the 2010 Olympic trails, these will be some of the highest calibre races in North America this winter. Stay tuned for more action from around the world! |
